What is Online Personal Training?

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

This is your year.

This is the year you decide to get in shape and stop making excuses.

You may have already started working out. Maybe you downloaded an app to track your runs, or have signed up for a couple bootcamp classes a week.

This all resulted in some weight loss and a boost of energy. But a month or two goes by and those results start to slow down. The workouts are getting stale and your long term goals are starting to seem out of reach.

Or maybe you are the person who just can’t seem to get themselves to commit. You have been putting off working out and the days turned into weeks, then the weeks turned into months. Working out is still on your mind but you just don’t know how to get yourself started.

In either situation, hiring an online coach could be a great idea to get you on the path to reach your goals.

In this article you will get a behind the scenes look at what online coaching is all about. I will lay out exactly how it is at every step of the process. You will get to put yourself in the shoes of a client and get a feel for what to expect. By the end of this article you will get an idea of how to have a great experience by getting incredible results and having fun in the process. Here is everything you need to know about online training.

Online coaches can be your ultimate resource. When you hire someone to help you on your fitness journey they can help with:

  • being a source of motivation to get you off your butt and in the gym.

  • writing up a high level program for you that will get you results so you don’t have to go through the headache of looking up programs that might not even work.

  • being there to answer any questions along the way so that you have the peace of mind knowing you are being taken care of.

When it comes to online coaches, like any other business, not all of them are exactly the same. Some have certain specialties. Some sell different types of services. And not all of their intake and coaching processes are exactly the same.

But if you were curious, here’s an idea of what you might expect from an online trainer.

This is how I personally take on new clients and the process they go through to get started on their path to achieving their personal goals.

1. You fill out a coaching application

(available here https://www.coachfitzz.com/questionaire)

This application takes care of all the details that help me to guide you as best I can with nutrition and to write you up a program that will help you reach your goals. It also covers what kind of equipment you have available to you. If you have an entire gym at your disposal, or you have no equipment at all, it is possible to write you a workout program that gets you great results.

2. We have a Zoom meeting

During this meeting we get the chance to meet face to face. We first start by going over exactly what your goals are. Once that is done I do a brief movement assessment. This ensures that I do not give you exercises that may injure you or that you are not yet ready for. After that we sit down and map out a plan to get you in the right direction. This is where we talk about short term goals, habit setting, and answer any other questions.

3. You track your workouts and nutrition throughout the week

One of the ways that we communicate is through you tracking certain things throughout the week. This includes logging what weights you use in the gym and tracking your nutritional habits. This way I am able to get an honest look at how your week went. Depending on how you did we can make any changes needed or we can see what works well and keep improving.

4. Weekly Check Ins

Once a week I send out a brief questionnaire that takes about 5 minutes to fill out. It covers different aspects of your week that can contribute to your success on the program. I then will respond as quickly as possible so that you are all set up for the next week.

Even though I only send out the check in once a week, I personally love to get multiple emails throughout the week to keep the line of communication open. And with the way I run my service, you get 24/7 email access so that if anything comes up you can always reach me.

This is just a basic outline of how I personally work with clients. But, again, all coaches do it a little differently.

Regardless of the differences in the process, having an online coach can be an extremely beneficial resource. The experience could honestly be life changing. A little bit of accountability, encouragement, and guidance goes a long way.

I hope this article was helpful in getting a behind the scenes look at what online coaching is all about.
